Australia Day Awards – Citizen of the Year
As part of their Australia Day Awards event, Maroondah Council announced Terri Verbene as their Citizen of the Year for 2022.
Terri, Aileen Allen and David Charles Williamson were the nominees for this award. David is a friend of HCAG and a generous local volunteer:
“COVID has been both challenging and a gift for David.
Challenging because he was unable to work as a DJ and also to run the Celebrations Photobooth Hire business. However, it allowed him to focus on his mature age studies in counselling. It opened up space for him to truly explore that career, and to be certain that he has found the career that he is passionate about and excels at. The Heatherdale Community Action group has witnessed many quiet acts of kindness from David, which includes his online volunteer counselling during 2021. David offers help to those in the community who continue to struggle with loneliness and loss of socialisation. During the pandemic he also volunteered for Life Care.”

Shaping Whitehorse Survey
27 March 2024
“Tell us your ideas to help shape Council’s major long-term community, health, assets and financial plans.
Survey closes Sunday 5 May.
Put your ideas forward for a Whitehorse you would be excited to live, work and play in.
Later this year, a new Council will be elected. The first important task will be for Council to develop and review a range of major plans that set the priorities for the next four years.
These plans affect everybody in Whitehorse. They guide the day-to-day work of Council as well as longer-term decisions. This includes things like the services Council provides, the buildings and facilities and works it invests in, and how it supports the health and wellbeing of the community and environment.
What matters most to you? Take the survey to help shape these plans!
Your feedback will be used to check in with the Whitehorse 2040 Community Vision to confirm and ensure it still reflects the community’s hopes and aspirations for the future. This Vision was developed in 2020 by the Whitehorse community and is an important document that Council uses to guide its key plans.
This is your opportunity to share your ideas, so we can create a roadmap to 2029 that reflects community priorities and takes us closer to the Whitehorse 2040 Vision.”

Positive Ageing in Whitehorse Survey
9 September 2023
“Feedback closes on 30 November
We’re expanding our Positive Ageing service and want your feedback to help ensure the service responds to the needs of our community.
Our expanded Positive Ageing service will:
- ensure Council services and facilities are developed with the priorities, interests and needs of older residents in mind
- support community development, enabling our community to connect, learn, volunteer and participate
- support older residents to navigate systems and supports in place for older people
- advocate for high quality, responsive and inclusive services.
The survey below is primarily designed for residents aged 55+ years to tell us how we can help make our community a positive place to age. We also want to hear from those aged between 45–54 –years old, whose insights and ideas may contribute to improving our services for when it’s their turn to use them.”
