HCAG petition for Heatherdale Road speed restrictions

November 2021

This petition calls for the speed limit on Heatherdale Road and all link roads in Whitehorse to be reduced to 50 kmh.

This reduction in speed limit is required for:

Consistency

  • The current limit between Whitehorse and Canterbury Roads is 60kmh, compared with the Dampier Grove extension (north of Whitehorse Rd) and Heatherdale Rd south of Canterbury Rd which are both 50kmh.

Safety and amenity

  • Many vehicles, including large trucks (with slow acceleration), other commercials and cars access and egress Heatherdale Rd.
  • Large trucks use Heatherdale Rd, and they are often not able to stop quickly.
  • Many vehicles (trucks, other commercials and cars) park along Heatherdale Rd, blocking and limiting sight lines.
